1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and, if it was required of you, the CSS Profile.
If you are studying abroad in the fall term, your financial aid offer should be available during the summer in the Finance Center of your SIS account, provided you have given us all the information we need.
If you are studying abroad during the spring term and have already submitted the FAFSA and CSS Profile for the current year, you don't need to complete these forms again. In November, we'll review your financial aid eligibility for the spring. Adjustments to your financial aid will show in your SIS account, and you should get an email from us when those are made.

Those who are participating in non-UVA Study Abroad programs also need to complete steps 2 and 3.
2. Check to see if UVA has a consortium agreement on file with your study abroad institution, or host school. Study abroad consortium agreements on file are listed here:

A consortium agreement is a contract between UVA and a host school. A valid consortium agreement must be on file in order for you to be eligible for financial aid during your study abroad term. If you do not see your study abroad institution on this list, please contact our office for a blank consortium agreement.
3. Submit official costs of your study abroad program if you are studying on non-UVA programs and exchange programs.
The costs for the term or year abroad should include required program fees and expenses including books, housing and dining, local transportation, airfare, and personal expenses. Official costs are defined as costs provided by the study abroad program such as in a program brochure or on a website. Making personal estimates and submitting these estimates won't be enough. Instead, complete and submit the Education Abroad Expense Form. Make sure you are choosing the correct aid year document! If you are studying abroad in fall 2024, for example, you will need to choose the form for the 2024-2025 academic year.
