A Guide to the CSS/PROFILE

The CSS/PROFILE ("Profile"), administered by College Board, is an online application that collects information used by certain colleges, including UVA, and scholarship programs to award state and University funds. (All Federal funds are awarded based on the FAFSA, available after Oct. 1 at fafsa.ed.gov.)

  • First-year and transfer undergraduate students who wish to be considered for all forms of need-based financial aid are encouraged to complete the Profile their first year to be considered for all forms of need-based aid. For students wondering if they may be eligible for need-based aid, MyinTuition takes just a few minutes to complete and will provide a rough estimate of potential financial aid eligibility.
  • Returning students who qualified for need-based aid in prior years will likely be required to complete the Profile, but they should wait to do so until instructed by SFS.  If you have any doubts, please contact SFS for guidance.
