Financial Aid Basics

Welcome! We're glad you are interested in UVA, and we want to help you with resources and guidance along the way as you complete your application for admission. From this page, you'll find links to important information about financial aid, including how and when to apply. Whether you are transferring in to UVA from another school, rebooting your college career after some time away, or entering directly from high school, everything you need to know to apply on time can be found here. A few tips to help you stay on track:

  • The FAFSA and the CSS Profile are both available as of October 1 each year. Regardless of whether you apply early decision, early action, or regular decision, we recommend you submit these applications as soon as possible after October 1
  • Note the priority financial aid application deadlines for your type of application. Meeting the deadline helps improve the chance that your financial aid will be ready just after your admission decision is made known to you.
  • If you have special circumstances that you think we need to know about as you complete the required application materials, reach out to us at [email protected] early.

A final note for beyond the first year: UVA students who receive financial aid must reapply each year by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSAand the CSS Profile. (Note: some students are not required to complete the Profile each year, and we communicate this to them separately.)

Both applications must be completed for the student to receive full consideration of all available forms of financial aid. For more information and additional requirements, please see the links to the left.
