Student Financial Services, with support from the Jefferson Trust, is pleased to announce Peer Financial Counseling, available as a free service to all UVA students.
Who We Are
Peer Financial Counseling offers all UVA students one-on-one help from trained peer counselors on a variety of topics, including budgeting, student loans, managing personal credit, and preparing a financial plan for an internship or when you transition to the workforce. Our counselors understand the pressures that come with being a college student and want to help you to manage those pressures in your life. We are not financial advisors, but we work with fellow students to help them sort out their financial values and priorities, and provide them ongoing support to stick with the financial plans they make. All of us have a financial story, but before your questions about your finances become a burden, come talk with a Peer Financial Counselor. We want to help you change your story.
How We Can Help
Counselors are trained to offer resources and support in:
- Creating a budget and developing smarter spending habits
- Obtaining and managing a personal credit card
- Understanding student loans
- Opening and managing a personal bank account
- Basics of filing taxes
- Identifying fraud and threats to your electronic identity
- Preparing to enter the workforce
When and Where to Find Us
One-on-one counseling sessions are available Monday – Thursday, from 2pm – 6pm, in Room 245 of the Georges Student Center on the 2nd floor of Clemons Library or at another time mutually agreed upon.
