I began as a Peer Financial Counselor in Fall 2018 because I love to teach about personal finance and because I was excited by the opportunity to improve financial literacy at UVA. During my time as a Peer Financial Counselor, I found the peer-to-peer approach highly rewarding because of the collaborative environment of the counseling sessions. Counseling sessions rely on the Counselor to provide mentorship about financial wellness, however, a highlight of my counseling sessions was the chance to listen to the life experiences and new perspectives of the individuals being counseled. I particularly enjoyed counseling sessions in which we discussed credit, banking, and budgeting. But I’m excited to discuss anything about financial wellness!
