If you have not received notification of your preliminary offer, that likely means we do not yet have 1) your FAFSA, 2) your CSS Profile, or 3) other required documents listed either in your SIS Student Portal To Do List or requested through IDOC. Continue to monitor your email and texts for communications from our office and respond as soon as you can.

Yes! Federal Student Aid states that they have resolved the technical issue that prevented contributors without an SSN from starting or accessing the form. Follow this link to read more and get started.
The first place to check is our transfer student financial aid application page to make sure you have submitted both the FAFSA and the CSS Profile. The biggest change in applying for financial aid for many of our new transfer students is that we require the CSS Profile in addition to the FAFSA.
Make sure you complete the Profile if you have not done so already, and be sure to watch out for emails and maybe texts from us about your application.
We've heard about this happening to some users. In these cases, there may be an issue with the personal information attached to the contributor's StudentAid.gov account, such as an ITIN entered in place of an SSN, an incorrect date of birth, or multiple accounts for the same individual.
To fix this, the contributor will need to first invalidate their current StudentAid.gov account and then complete the process of creating a new account without an SSN.

If you have not received yours yet, please check your UVA Student Information System portal for any To Do List items, check your emails for any requests from IDOC or from UVA, and make sure you listed UVA as a school to receive your FAFSA and/or CSS Profile.

Not at all! If you have not completed one or both applications, please do so as soon as you can. The sooner you submit them, the sooner we can begin our review of your financial aid eligibility.
We are also very much aware that some students simply cannot complete the FAFSA at this time, and we are monitoring the status of this and other issues with Federal Student Aid. In the meantime, you can always reach out to us with questions or concerns at [email protected]. We are your partner in this, and we want to help however we can.
For new students, you’ll need to submit both the FAFSA and the CSS Profile. If you haven’t yet done both, make it a priority to complete them now.
Also, get to know your UVA SIS portal. This is where we’ll put “To Do List” items associated with your financial aid application. You got your login information from UVA’s Admission office when you submitted your Common Application to us, but if you need help logging in, write to [email protected].
All students should watch their email for updates from Federal Student Aid on the status of their FAFSA. These will inform you of any action you need to take to make sure we receive your FAFSA.

The best way to ensure we get your FAFSA information is to log in to view your FAFSA and to make sure that UVA (school code 003745) is listed as a recipient school. We expect we’ll start receiving transmissions of FAFSA data by mid-March.

First, make sure you complete the FAFSA and the Profile as soon as you are able. Then, monitor your To Do List and all emails from our office for any additional information we require. Our goal is always to have financial aid offers out by mid-July when the fall bill comes out. You can do your part to help make this happen by meeting deadlines and paying close attention to communications.
We have heard reports from other students and families of the same experience. Federal Student Aid reports that they anticipate completing aid eligiblity calculation for submitted applications through the first half of March. Once your application is processed, you will receive an email notification with your updated SAI and estimated aid eligibility.
While you wait, Federal Student Aid has published an aid estimator that may help to give you an idea of what to expect when your application is processed: https://studentaid.gov/aid-estimator/.
We have a process for students and families to request an appeal for special circumstances when your financial circumstances have changed, and the aid year (2022) no longer reflects your current financial situation. Please complete both the FAFSA and CSS Profile using financial information from 2022.
After you receive a preliminary award, you will have the opportunity to appeal your financial aid award. We cannot review an appeal for special circumstances until you have your preliminary offer.
